About Cheryl Fauersø Nix

Cheryl’s chapter is about how she put off dealing with her grief after her father died when she was 19 years of age. The depression and PTSD experienced from his sudden death started to negatively affect her life.  Her father had been a huge influence in her life.  After being shot down over Germany during WWII he spent 21 months in prison camp, mostly Stalag Luft III. His love of music and singing in the Catholic choir there seemed to sustain him. She did seek out a licensed clinical social worker who helped her to deal with her struggles.  Then drawing on her father’s love of music, she found ways to use music as a tool for her grief.

Cheryl Fauersø Nix, BS ed, ADN, LCSW started her higher education with an education degree, then went on to an associate degree in nursing. After 30+ of a nursing career, she wanted to provide therapy for trauma. Cheryl returned to college in her mid-50s, for a master’s degree in social work from Portland State University. After the degree completion, she worked 10 years at two different hospices doing case management, plus bereavement counseling for individuals and groups. Cheryl knows that her strong desire and passion to keep working will be many years after age 65 years. She feels the work keeps her feeling younger and with more energy.
